Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd is one of the largest container-shipping companies in the world. Zim offers transportation services along most of the major international trading routes to customers throughout the world. From its corporate headquarters in Haifa, it operates an inter-modal system, which combines sea, land, and air transportation, enabling the Company to provide fast, reliable, frequent, and complete door-to-door services around the world. Zim operates over 80 vessels of all types. Of these, 27 vessels are fully or partly owned and the remainders are chartered. In 2003 Zim has completed its new building program with a total investment of 650 million dollars. The new building program will improve customer service and will increase the company's carrying capacity.
Three new container vessels were ordered by Zim, and will complete Zim's new building program, comprising of 13 vessels of about 5000 TEU each. The first six vessels were supplied during 2002; six additional will be received during 2004, and the last one beginning 2005. All vessels are from Hyundai shipyards in Korea.
The 13 vessels will constitute the fleet of Zim's first global service (ZCS), which route is Haifa, West Med, US East Coast, Jamaica, US West Coast, Far East and back to Haifa.
